With their latest release “The Ballad Book”, the Svein Olav Herstad trio have secured their position as one of the most paramount piano trios in Norway with an album that is a true work of art. This is the band’s fifth recording and has delighted critics with its attention grabbing soundscape variations, combined with world-class technical brilliance and resonance. The album is poetic and laid back but also dynamic, edgy and expressive in its musicality.
There is every reason to believe that the Steinway piano at Spor 5, hand-picked by pianist Herstad one and a half years ago, will be handled expertly and contribute to a delightful evening of interplay with the magical bass playing of Thormodsæter and dexterity of drummer Mjåset Johansen. The concert will comprise both self-composed material as well as exquisite original versions of standards.
