A living legend. A bass virtuoso. A Grammy winner

A living legend. A bass virtuoso. A Grammy winner. Many labels can be attached to Stanley Clarke. But probably the most fitting is innovator. Not least since as a young and up-and-coming musician, Clarke stood out as one who allowed the bass centre stage, more as a melodic solo instrument than a steady cornerstone of the rhythm section. With himself as frontman, he enjoyed great success in the jazz-fusion genre with sell-out concerts across the globe and gold albums galore. Many of his songs from that era have become standards for today’s young bassists.

He handles the acoustic bass just as naturally as the electric. The common trait is the driving melodic bassline, whether it’s his own solo projects or in the many legendary bands he has been part of. Clarke’s long-standing partnership with late keyboardist George Duke resonates warmly with music aficionados, as does his period with Chick Corea in Return To Forever. More recent successes worthy of note are together with bass peers Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten – in concerts where the bass really is bottoms up.

Clarke is a not-to-be-missed bass ambassador, a behemoth of the low end. Be there or be square!
