Since its launch in 2016 as a collaboration between Moldejazz and the Trondheim Jazz Festival, Ola Kvernberg’s STEAMDOME has transformed into an explosive full-time band, with last year’s award-winning debut album receiving all-round positive critical acclaim. Kvernberg and Steamdome are now gearing up for the summer festivals, setting out on a major Norwegian tour later this autumn with an en route stop-off point in Stavanger on 31st October.

Steamdome is described as a groovy, runaway train driven on by three drummers with a spirited, surrealistic visual energy and a blistering head of steam. The music weaves its way between rugged cliffs, huge panoramas, sharp bends, sheer drops and moonlit silhouetted landscapes. The only reference point is the driving rhythm from a train with no intention of stopping, as it flies through stations where we catch fleeting glimpses of Weather Report, Fela Kuti, Ennio Morricone and Todd Terje.

Kvernberg has hand-picked a hard-hitting crew for Steamdome. Drummers Erik Nylander (Mechanical Fair, Liarbird), Børge Fjordheim (Morten Abel, Sivert Høyem, Chloroform) and Hans Hulbækmo (Broen, Atomic, Moskus) drive the locomotive onwards, together with bassist Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen (BigBang, Elephant9, Band of Gold). In addition to Kvernberg himself on fiddle and viola, guitarist and jack-of-all-trades Øyvind Blomstrøm (El Cuero, Odd Nordstoga, Stein Torleif Bjella), innovative organist Daniel Buner Formo (Trondheim Jazzorkester, Kobert, Formo Tre & Metall), sound engineer Tor Breivik and lighting designer Ingrid Skanke Høsøien ensure that everything stays on track.
