On Friday 9th March, Bendik Hofseth will be releasing his 10th album under his own name, entitled “Atunement”.

Following the 25th anniversary celebrations of Hofseth’s “IX” album, things have really started to move once again. A major Norwegian tour, with some 20 concerts and a run of international activities were the underlying factors for Hofseth once again entering the studio and recording this latest album. There was an audience out there who were undernourished and hungry for his compositions. And rumour has it that this is a major album.

The aim was to take the best of the 90s and mix that together what he has been doing more recently. Hofseth was monumental in Norwegian music during that decade. His three albums with English lyrics (“IX”, “Amuse Yourself” and “Planets, Rivers and…IKEA”) stand out as pop classics, while instrumental releases “Metamorphoses”, “Colours” and “XI” are jazz classics. “IX” was also accoladed as one of the best 100 albums in Norwegian tabloid Dagbladet, with the other six receiving top ratings.

Hofseth’s 2018 vestment is more mature and experimental. He is joined by two of his friends from the 90s – drummer Paolo Vinaccia and multi-guitarist Eivind Aarset, as well as new additions Mats Eilertsen on bass and pianist, Helge Iberg.

Hofseth impressed at MaiJazz’s opening concert at Stavanger Concert Hall last year. Spor 5 provides an altogether more intimate backdrop for this supergroup, where they will perform compostions from the saxophonist’s entire back catalogue, embodying exquisite material spanning several genres.

Line-up: Bendik Hofseth – saxophone/vocals; Paolo Vinaccia – drums; Mats Eilertsen – bass; Eivind Aarset – guitars and effects; Helge Iberg – piano
