Jamaica meets Scandinavia for a unique collaboration. Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare are considered reggae’s best and most innovative rhythm section.

Together, they have lent rhythmic punch and near telepathic interplay to several of the most important recordings in reggae history: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff – as well as a substantial discography of their own. Their groove is highly prized outside Jamaica too – something that has led to partnerships with among others Grace Jones, Black Uhuru, Bob Dylan and Herbie Hancock.

Trumpeter, composer and producer Nils Petter Molvær takes jazz, ambient, electronica and break beats, as well as elements from hip hop, pop and rock, smelting it all together in a distinctive and dramatic soundscape of high intensity. With Khmer, Molvær redefined jazz in 1998. Since then, he has continued to renew both himself and electronic music.

As one of Norway’s most sought-after guitarists, he has worked with Bill Laswell, Dhafer Youssef, Jon Hassell, Jan Garbarek, Paolo Fresu, Marilyn Mazur and Andy Sheppard, among others. As a musician, he has a unique musical vision that is absorbed and mirrored in everything he does, whether quiet and intimate or blisteringly intense. His debut album on Jazzland Records (based on his commissioned work “7” from MaiJazz in 1997) was described by the New York Times as “One of the best post-Miles electric jazz albums,” a compliment that Aarset subsequently has both affirmed and surpassed both live and in the studio.

Vladislav Delay is one of many pseudonyms for electronica wizard Sasu Ripatti. He has been involved in ambient, glitch, house and techno and is also recognised for the organic feel to his music, along with heavy basslines.

Line-up: Nils Petter Molvær – trumpet, electronics; Sly Dunbar – drums; Robbie Shakespeare – bass; Eivind Aarset – guitar, electronics; Vladislav Delay (or Jan Bang) – electronics
