Gard Nilssen’s Acoustic Unity

The power of their expression and the freshness of the arrangements pull the sound into a contemporary landscape. Acoustic Unity use a mirror to navigate forwards.

Acoustic Unity’s music is self-penned and modern, with a polite nod to 60s free jazz. Described as among the best and freshest bands to emerge on the current Nordic jazz scene, the award-winning trio have since released four albums and played 60 concerts in Europe, Asia and the USA since their beginnings in 2014.

The band released “Firehouse” in 2015 to positive acclaim both in Norway and internationally, with triple live album “Live in Europe” just recently launched on the Portuguese label, Clean-Feed. To tie in with this, the group are following up with more festival gigs and tours in Norway, Europe and the USA.

Their self-composed arrangements focus on interplay, groove, energy, improvisation and spur-of-the-moment spontaneity. They explore the music’s historical legacy, but do not simply leave it at that. The power of their expression and the freshness of the arrangements pull the sound into a contemporary landscape. Acoustic Unity use a mirror to navigate forwards.

The musicians are among the most active and in-demand performers on the contemporary Nordic and European scenes and are otherwise known for their work with artists such as Django Bates, Arild Andersen, Pat Metheny, Trondheim Jazzorkester, Amok Amor, Team Hegdal, Susanne Sundfør, Albatrosh, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Bushman´s Revenge, Rune Your Day and Enemy.

Bassist Peter Eldh will not be present for the Spor 5 concert, but standing in will be none other than Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten.
